Makeup or No Makeup...You Are Beautiful
Hello, hello! I hope you are all having a great weekend so far! Today I wanted to share a guest post by a fellow blogger.
Meet: Lisa Marie Galván
Lisa is a blogger at La Vida Lisa. I love her insight and catching up on her latest outfits! She recently posted about beauty and her definition of it, and I really wanted to share it with you all! Here's what she's got to say:
"I got the idea of writing this blog post after one of my friends asked me to help her with her photography project titled Bona Fide. She was looking for females who were comfortable being photographed in full makeup and then photographed while taking of their makeup without looking. This seemed like something I was definitely willing to do.
A few days later I was in the studio getting my photos taken. My friend began to ask me questions while she clicked away; she asked what I like about myself, what my passions are and how I feel about my appearance. As I was answering these questions I realized that recently I have not only become more confident in myself, my body and who I am but have also encouraged others to feel the same.
When it comes to my immediate friend group I feel like I am a friend that is always trying to help them feel better about themselves and embrace who they are. I try to encourage their dreams rather than trying to be something they are not, or to look at themselves and own their bodies in a negative way.
I think in today’s society it seems like everyone (males and females) is feeling the pressure of having the perfect body, skin, smile and clothes from Instagram to advertisements. Of course we all strive to be the best we can be, but I think it’s important that we strive for those things in healthy ways. I find myself looking at beautiful women all over social media (most of which are my friends) and feeling like “wow, I really wish I looked like that.” And then I sit and think, “Why don’t I look like that?”
Rather than obsessing why I’m not like everyone online, I began to think of how I can be who I want to be, for myself. I think the most important thing is to realize that you are the only one in control of your body and your happiness.
Recently I have begun to focus on myself, my goals and growing as a person. For one, I started this blog to be able to express myself and be able to help other people with fashion, skincare and anything else I want to share. I started to eliminate negative thoughts and people that weren’t helping me towards my dreams and didn’t believe in me. Once I began to focus on myself, and who I wanted to become, I found that it was much easier to be happy. Of course I still use social media and get inspired by other people, but I no longer try to mimic the people around me and try to embrace my individuality rather than try to adapt to the latest trends. And I think this is what others should try to do as well. Its okay to be inspired by others, but don’t let them make you feel worse about yourself and never lose yourself.
I just wanted to write this post for people who are still trying to “fit in” and are feeling uncomfortable with who they are. I want them to realize that they are so empowered, that they are the only ones who are in control of their happiness and confidence. No one else should be able to take that away from you."
